Fiona Barber

Manager - industry development

Fiona has spent her whole working life in the arts. She landed her first professional acting gig with Zootango in Hobart a few months before she finished her Bachelor of Education with Honours at UTAS, at which point she knew she would never teach and that theatre was her true love.

Fiona spent her twenties performing across Australia in theatre, cabaret and alongside Chrissie Amphlett and Russell Crowe in the musical Blood Brothers. She spent three years in London performing in musicals, got her first tv experience with a BBC police drama and decided to come home when standing in the wings waiting to go on stage at Drury Lane Theatre.

In her thirties she turned to arts management and completed her Graduate Diploma of Arts and Entertainment Management through Deakin University. She was General Manager of HotHouse Theatre for eight years before leaving to take up the position of General Manager of the internationally acclaimed Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

Fiona was the Deputy Chair of Arts NSW’s Theatre Committee and a founding member of Regional Arts Victoria’s Touring Consultative Committee.

Fiona returned to Tasmania in mid-2007 to manage the industry development activities of Arts Tasmania.
