Vale - Sue Henderson

Monday, 28 November 2016

It is with deep sadness that Arts Tasmania conveys news of the passing of Dr Sue Henderson - visual artist and practice-led researcher, and coordinator of the drawing and painting studios at the Tasmanian College of the Arts, Inveresk. Her research included visual responses to the natural environment  (including the localities of Cataract Gorge and Rocky Cape) and site-specific painting installations exploring architecture, site responsiveness and performative potentials for painting environments.

The work that Sue undertook in guiding and nurturing others in her role at the University of Tasmania also had significant impact on the Tasmanian arts community. Sue made a lasting impression on her students and she will be sorely missed by her peers and colleagues at the Tasmanian College of the Arts.

We were very fortunate to have such a talented artist living, working and teaching in our state. Sue’s warmth, collegiality, good humour and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed by all.

In 2015, Sue was resident artist at Rocky Cape. You can explore some of Sue’s work and process through this link Case study: Sue Henderson - Tasmanian Residencies, which contains a small interview and video.
