COLLECT Art Purchase Scheme – arts businesses

The COLLECT Art Purchase Scheme is an interest-free loan program that makes quality Tasmanian art accessible to consumers Australia-wide. It is a Tasmanian Government initiative delivered by Arts Tasmania.

More than 6,700 Tasmanian artworks worth a combined $22 million have been purchased through the scheme since 2009.

Eligible Tasmanian arts businesses can apply to participate in COLLECT.

Key dates

Opens: 11 April 2025
Closes: 8 September 2025

  • Eligibility

    Arts Tasmania expects all arts businesses participating in COLLECT to be members of the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) and uphold the NAVA Code of Practice for Commercial Galleries.

    To be eligible, a business must also:

    • have operated as a commercial arts retailer for more than 12 months prior to application
    • operate under a company, partnership or sole trader structure (Please contact Arts Tasmania before completing an application if your business operates under any other legal structure)
    • represent professional artists
    • primarily sell artwork by Tasmanian artists
    • demonstrate it holds NAVA membership
    • have a dedicated website that profiles the business and the artworks or have a web presence that specifically promotes the arts aspect of the business
    • have a minimum of $10 million public liability insurance cover
    • have no outstanding grants acquittals with Arts Tasmania.

    You must also meet Arts Tasmania’s general eligibility requirements.

    • Artistic merit and innovation of the works   created, exhibited or sold
    • Consistency of artistic excellence across the   business's program
    • Professional standing of the arts business or   represented artists
    • Curatorial strength and thematic cohesion of   exhibitions (if relevant)
    • Documentation quality (images, catalogues,   website presentation)
    • Price points relative to artist career stage   and market position
    • Visual presentation standards in gallery   spaces
    BUSINESS PRACTICE
    • Compliance with NAVA Code of Practice for   Commercial Galleries and/or Indigenous Art Code (if relevant)
    • Ethical dealings with artists, collectors and stakeholders
    • Demonstrated sound financial management and   systems
    • Quality of marketing materials and promotional   activities
    • Artist payment timeliness and fairness
    • Contribution to broader arts ecology and   community
    • Capacity to enhance COLLECT Art Purchase   Scheme's reputation
